Naturopathic doctors are currently regulated in Ontario under the Drugless Therapy Act and are registered by the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy-Naturopathy (BDDT-N). The BDDT-N functions to ensure that Naturopathic Doctors are properly qualified to practice naturopathic medicine and that they follow the appropriate standards of practice.
On May 19, 2006, the Health Professions Regulation Advisory Council (HPRAC) recommended that the regulation of Naturopathic Doctors be moved under the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). This is the same governing body responsible for the regulation of Medical Doctors, Chiropractors and Registered Massage Therapists.
At the present time, a Transitional Council of The College of Naturopaths of Ontario (TC-CONO) has been established in order to prepare for proclamation under the RHPA. This process is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2014.
